Le Figue


The area is famous for its farm products, including foie gras, nut oils, truffles, nuts, ceps and duck products. Wildlife is in abundance here, and we have red deer, red squirrels, wild boar, horses, geese, orchids and buzzards not to mention the fruit trees at your disposal such as figs, plums, peaches, apricots, cherries and apples and all on your doorstep.



There is a wealth of treasures and heritage to explore in the area from caves, 1001 chateau¡¯s, medieval cities and picturesque villages along with some spectacular scenery. Whether you prefer cycling, trekking, fishing, horse-riding or canoeing down the rivers, wandering through the quaint old towns or eating and drinking, there is plenty to see and do. Our gite is privately situated on a 50 acre estate giving you access to woodland walks along the river, ideal for picnics. There is a large private courtyard area complete with covered areas and garden furniture and BBQ, with private parking and access to the lovely garden and pool area.



Free days out include market day in Thiviers and Brantome, swimming lakes, cycling and walking, visiting villages such as Brantome and the 'Plus Beaux Villages de France' of St Jean-de-Cole and Aubterre-sur-Dronne, or just lazing in the garden.


 

Other days out include canoeing in Brantome and Bourdeilles, the Grotte de Villars with its prehistoric cave paintings, stalactites and stalagmites, nearby fishing at the beautiful St Jean de Cole, 10 pin bowling in a lovely village, visiting chateaux, the WW2 site of Oradour-sur-Glane, the Perigord heritage village of Le Bournat, the Acquarium at Le Bugue, the spooky Maison Forte de Reignac, the fabulous overhanging Gardens at Marqueyssac and the gardens of the imagination at Terrasson.
